Donald Trump Does D.C.

Updated: Aug 13, 2025

In 2024, Washington D.C. was a national leader among major cities for having one of the highest murder rates in the country. Violent crime has been declining there for the past year, but it’s a city typified by fluctuations in its murder rate and rates of robbery, arson, and larceny. The city will be on the upswing one year, and the next it will be back in the gutter, side by side with Memphis, Detroit, and Baltimore. Wards 7 and 8 are of particular concern, but even a cursory examination of the demographics will tell you the same old story: low income, poorly educated, majority black, etc. We’ve seen this movie before in literally every other major city in America.

Another story we should all be familiar with: the city government of Washington D.C. is dominated by the Democratic Party. This is true of every single major metropolitan crime and poverty center in the country. The mayor’s office has been held by a Democrat since 1973 when Nixon signed the "District of Columbia Home Rule Act" into law. The city council is controlled by a Democratic supermajority.

This is the same old song and dance we see in Baltimore, another haven of crime and filth. Charm City, as some like to call it (another moniker is Bodymore, Murderland, very charming), hasn’t elected a Republican to the mayor’s office since 1963, and the city council has been controlled by the Democrats since 1939. Baltimore’s murder rate is well above the national average, and one in five residents are impoverished.

Detroit is no better. Despite declines in the rates of violent crime and property crime, Motown is a national leader in every category imaginable: murder, theft, assault, poverty, low income, etc. And they haven’t had a Republican mayor since 1957, and the city council has been in the vile clutches of the Democrats for roughly the same number of years.

Look at every major city: New York, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago, Houston, etc., and you’ll find pretty much the same trademarks of Democratic rule: economic deprivation, educational destitution, and violence. This is what happens when those people are in charge for generation after generation. And make no mistake, their mission is to do this to the entire country. It’s no accident that everything they touch turns to mud. It’s deliberate; it’s their plan.

President Donald Trump has had enough. Today he announced he’s federalizing D.C. Soon the streets of our nation’s capital will be patrolled by hundreds of troops from our National Guard, supplemented by the D.C. police who are in turn supplemented by over one hundred FBI agents. And it’s about goddamn time.

It’s not good enough that the murder rate has seen a decline over two years. Based on the city’s history, the rate could skyrocket again next year. Without bold leadership and decisive action, D.C. will seesaw from bloody years to slightly less bloody years, as it always has. The feckless and sinister Democratic governance of the city has neither the stomach nor the temerity to do what’s right for their citizens, and, as noted before, the Democrats want our cities to be bloodstained cesspools.

And so it takes Donald Trump to be the adult in the room and clean up the cesspools himself. It’s a national disgrace and even a national security risk to have as our mayors and city council members politicians whose ambition it is to destroy our country from the inside out. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that Trump can take them on and turn things around, but this epidemic of weaponized incompetence may have caused more damage than even The Man can fix.
